PCB elevates Sahibzada Farhan as their new T20I captain

On Monday, October 5, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced Pakistan’s white-ball squads for their forthcoming series. While the T20I team takes on Sri Lanka in a three-match series, the ODI side will be a part of the tri-series against Sri Lanka and England.

While Pakistan’s three-match T20I series begins on Friday, October 9, in Rawalpindi, the ODI tri-series will commence on Sunday, October 18 and feature a double round-robin format with the top two sides racing to the final.

In an interesting turn of events, PCB named top-order batter Sahibzada Farhan as their new T20I captain, with the 30-year-old taking over from Salman Ali Agha for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka.

Notably, Salman Ali Agha is set to remain part of the ODI setup, where Shaheen Shah Afridi retains the captaincy for the tri-series. Further, Babar Azam has been included in the ODI squad.

Farhan, who top-scored at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, led Pakistan to a silver medal at the just-concluded Asian Games 2026 after losing the final to Team India in Aichi-Nagoya. In the T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, Farhan scored 383 runs at a strike rate of 160 to emerge as the leading run-scorer.
