India ODI and T20I Squad Announcement for West Indies: Hardik Pandya Out, Pant Gets Major Role

India ODI and T20I Squad Announcement for West Indies: Hardik Pandya Out, Pant Gets Major Role

On September 16, 2026, the Board of Control for Cricket in India revealed India’s team selections for the forthcoming home series against West Indies. Shubman Gill has been appointed captain of the ODI team, and Shreyas Iyer will lead the T20I squad. The three-match ODI series kicks off on September 27 in Trivandrum, with a five-match T20I series beginning on October 6 in Lucknow.

As discussions grow louder about his future in the 50-over format, former India captain Rohit Sharma remains in the top order, alongside captain Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. Following modest scores of 11 and 26 in the first two ODIs on English soil, Rohit silenced doubters with a brilliant 137 at Lord’s, chasing down a daunting 388 in the series final, though his performance wasn’t enough to clinch victory.

The newly announced ODI squad includes several newcomers, notably promising all-rounder Naman Dhir and fast bowler Auqib Nabi, who have both received their first national call-ups. Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar Reddy was removed from the Asian Games squad to strengthen the 50-over team ahead of the upcoming tour.

The West Indies’ tour of India includes three ODIs and five T20Is. The ODI series begins on September 27 in Trivandrum, with the second match set for September 30 in Guwahati and the third on October 3 in New Chandigarh. The 2026 Asian Games coincide with all three ODIs, which is why separate squads are being fielded for the two events during that period.

The T20I series will then be played across five venues. The first T20I is scheduled for October 6 in Lucknow, the second on October 9 in Ranchi, the third on October 11 in Indore, the fourth on October 14 in Hyderabad, and the fifth and final match on October 17 in Bengaluru.
