After Stephen Fleming, the former head coach of the Chennai Super Kings, took over as England’s red-ball coach, there has been speculation about the next head coach of the five-time IPL winners. The team is looking for a foreign replacement for the coaching position ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League season.
Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has urged the team to take into consideration their batting coach and former Australian batsman Michael Hussey, despite claims that former England batsman Eoin Morgan and Brendon McCullum are being considered for the position at CSK.
On his YouTube channel, Kris Srikkanth said, “I won’t go for Eoin Morgan for sure. He was a good player and a good captain for England. But as a coach, I won’t accept him as an option. Even as KKR’s captain, he didn’t do anything great. It’ll be best if he just sticks to commentary. Likewise, it’ll be good for CSK if they don’t appoint Brendon McCullum as the head coach. They should say no to both Morgan and McCullum.”
Rather, Srikkanth stated that he would rather see Michael Hussey take Fleming’s place. However, Srikkanth thinks that MS Dhoni’s plans may also have a significant impact on the final choice. The future of Dhoni continues to play a significant role in shaping CSK’s course, especially with regard to the degree of authority and influence the renowned skipper wishes to maintain inside the team. The great captain’s future is uncertain, as the wicketkeeper-batter did not participate in a single IPL 2026 match.
