‘I Really Want to Make That Stride’ Asa Tribe Targets World Cup Glory With Jersey

After an incredible rise in the English domestic game, the Glamorgan and England Lions batsman has not represented his country since the summer of 2025. However, after rejoining the team for the first time since last summer, Tribe, 22, who made his debut for Jersey at the age of 17 five years ago, aspires to assist the island in qualifying from ICC Challenge League A.

Last summer, Tribe’s most recent appearances for Jersey were in the previous round of Challenge League A games. In a 160-run victory over Papua New Guinea at Farmers Field, he scored 175 from 156 balls, setting an ICC Challenge League record for an individual hitter. After that, he defeated Qatar by eight wickets with an unbeaten 53. His professional trajectory was significantly influenced by the series of performances.

BBC quotes Tribe saying, “I’ve had a bit of a busy last 12 months and I’m happy to be playing for Jersey again. The last couple of times that I was in a Jersey shirt were successful for myself and the team. I really enjoy putting those kind of performances in for Jersey because I know what it means for the side in the sense of what it can go towards and how we can progress as a side.”

Tribe’s third List knock was 175. After scoring two goals for Glamorgan, he scored a century in just one week, earning him a spot in the England Lions squad that winter. Next month, he will travel to the Caribbean with that team. Due to his performances, there have been rumours that he may be called up to the whole England squad.

Tribe added, “That one is quite close to my heart. That was one of the games where we needed someone to stand up, there was a bit going on with the ball, we were batting first on one that was doing a little bit and I feel that knock set that game up really nicely.”

Tribe would not be the first player from an associate country to receive an England call-up. In last summer’s European qualifying round, Emilio Gay was a member of the Italy team that defeated Jersey to qualify for this year’s T20 World Cup. In June, England picked up the Durham hitter for their opening Test match against New Zealand. Tribe believes he can help the island advance, even if an England call-up would mean the end of his Jersey career.
