According to sources who spoke to IANS on Saturday, the auction briefing is anticipated to be held one day prior to the mini auction for the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, which is scheduled to take place in Goa on December 16.
The ceremony is expected to take place on December 16, according to sources from several teams and the broadcast side, even though the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet sent an official email to franchise owners and chief executive officers.
BCCI’s WhatsApp note read, “The IPL 2026 Player Auction will take place on December 16, 2026 at ITC Grand Goa and auction briefing will be held on December 15, 2026.”
It has been clarified that the information is just intended to assist teams with Goa travel arrangements and logistics. Although an official notification is anticipated to be delivered to the owners and CEOs in due course, it is unclear whether the date will change later.
The second ODI between India and Sri Lanka, which is set for December 16 at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, may fall on the proposed auction date. The location of the first ODI, which is set for December 13 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, has not yet been decided. The search for a new location has been prompted by the stadium’s impending drainage and pitch maintenance projects.
The final mini-auction of the 2023–2027 cycle will take place in December. The deadline for the bidding in Goa is November 15, 2026, when teams must submit their final lists of players who will be retained and released for the 2027 season. According to reports, the 2027 edition will take place between March 14 and May 30. Although the official dates have not yet been finalised, Devajit Saikia informed the media following the BCCI AGM last week that the season would start at the end of March.
