Why Mohsin Naqvi Will Miss India vs Pakistan Asian Games 2026 Final

Mohsin Naqvi, who serves as both ACC President and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, will not be attending Finals Day at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. On Friday, the Asian Cricket Council officially announced that Naqvi will not be travelling to the medal matches at Korogi Park in Nisshin City because of prior obligations. Naqvi, serving as both chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and the country’s Interior Minister, has been a troublesome figure for the BCCI.

Naqvi serves in two key positions, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and interior minister of Pakistan, which have led to scheduling conflicts preventing his attendance at the 2026 Asian Games medal ceremony. The ACC issued a statement responding to his absence on the final day of the tournament.

On Friday, in a statement quoted by Cricbuzz, ACC said, “ACC president Mr Mohsin Naqvi will miss Finals Day at Aichi-Nagoya 2026. But he sends his very best wishes to all four teams ahead of the Gold and Bronze Medal matches.”

According to the Asian Cricket Council’s official statement, ACC President Mr Mohsin Naqvi will not be attending Finals Day at Aichi-Nagoya 2026. Still, he has extended his best wishes to all four teams ahead of the Gold and Bronze Medal matches. The ACC confirmed the announcement on Friday, stating that Naqvi’s previous commitments prevented him from travelling to Japan.

In both the 2025 men’s Asia Cup and this year’s women’s tournament, Indian teams declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi. The BCCI had asked the ACC to recommend that the chairman permit his deputy to carry out the honour, but he refused to change his mind. There were also concerns about what would happen if Naqvi, as the continental sporting head, were permitted to present the medal at the official ceremony. With Naqvi absent, the Olympic Council of Asia, local organisers, and the Indian Olympic Association can all steer clear of a potentially volatile situation.
