The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed on Thursday that Farhan Yousaf will captain Pakistan U-19 on their upcoming tour of England. Yousaf led Pakistan to the ACC U-19 Asia Cup title last December and will continue to hold the captaincy as the national youth team gets ready for a challenging assignment abroad.
The 15-man squad will leave Lahore on August 30 for the tour, which starts on September 2 with a single Youth Test against England at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground, featuring Abdul Subhan, Ahmad Hussain, Hamza Zahoor, Mohammad Sayyam, Umar Zaib, and Usman Khan.
The team met for a pre-tour camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore prior to leaving. A two-day red-ball intra-squad competition on Tuesday concluded the training block and gave the participants crucial playing time before the Youth Test.
The final six players are scheduled to make their first appearances for Pakistan U-19. Of the fifteen members, nine have previously donned the Pakistan U-19 shirt. In addition to captain Yousaf, Abdul Subhan, Ahmad Hussain, Hamza Zahoor, Mohammad Sayyam, Mohammad Huzaifa, Niqab Shafiq, Umar Zaib, and Usman Khan have all had experience at this level. If chosen for the tour, the remaining six players will represent Pakistan U-19 for the first time.
Sayyam, Subhan, Rizwanullah, and Zaib handle pace, while Mohammad Huzaifa, a left-arm wrist-spinner, and Niqab Shafiq, a left-arm spinner, handle spin. Aliyan Salman, Ahmad Hussain, Jahangir Bilal, and Hayam Khan occupy the all-rounder positions.
Abdul Qadir and Hamza Zahoor share wicket-keeping responsibilities behind the stumps. The group’s specialist hitters are Yousaf, Usman Khan, and Hasnain Abbas Dar. Five players—Abbas Afridi, Ali Hasnain Badshah, Farhanullah, Hassan Khan, and Ibtisam Azhar—were also designated by the PCB as non-travelling reserves.
