Due to a severe injury sustained during the first session on Day 4, Dinesh Chandimal was declared out of the current Galle Test against India on Tuesday. After the batter failed the medical team’s concussion test, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced that the batter would not be participating in the first Test of the two-match series. Pasindu Sooriyabandara took Chandimal’s place and is now anticipated to bat at number three for the home team.
In the fourth over of the Indian innings, Chandimal fielded at deep midwicket and sprinted all the way to deep square leg before diving full length to snag K L Rahul’s shot. Even though he was able to salvage a few runs, he hurt his neck and shoulder after landing hard on his shoulder.
SLC wrote on X, “Dinesh Chandimal hit his head and shoulder hard on the ground during the first session of the fourth day, injuring him while fielding. He was taken for a precautionary scan, which was clear and showed no signs of internal injury.”
Chandimal was evaluated at the stadium by the team’s physiotherapist and physician before being transported to the hospital for additional precautionary scans, according to a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket. The Sri Lankan camp was somewhat relieved when the preliminary evaluation revealed no evidence of internal injuries. He was eventually ruled out, though, because of a concussion.
Dinesh Chandimal will be replaced by Pasindu Sooriyabandara due to a concussion. The concussion replacement has been approved by the match referee. He was treated by his teammates, the team physiotherapist, and the physician after collapsing on the other side of the boundary in extreme pain.
Chandimal was frequently observed gripping his neck, head, and shoulder. He cautiously made his way back to the changing room by himself. In Sri Lanka’s opening innings, Chandimal had only managed four runs.
