On October 28, 2026, the club announced that Hampshire batter Joe Weatherley had signed a new contract guaranteeing his place at the county until at least the end of the 2028 season. Since making his senior debut in April 2016, Weatherley—who was raised in Winchester and followed Hampshire’s own development pathway—has made over 200 appearances for the county in all formats. With 2,741 runs in the format, he is third on the club’s all-time list of T20 run scorers; only Michael Carberry and James Vince are higher.
At this year’s Vitality Blast Finals Day, Weatherley was at the top of his game, scoring an unbeaten 88 against Notts Outlaws in the semi-final and then 75 in the final. By accomplishing this, he became the first guy in the competition’s history to record two fifties on a single Finals Day.
Andover Advertiser quotes Weatherley saying, “I’m really pleased to extend my contract with Hampshire. We’ve got a great group of players, and I’m motivated to contribute across formats and continue our success, particularly in white ball cricket, where we’ve been in knockouts and finals regularly, and bring some trophies home. We are delighted that he has committed his future to the club for a further two years.”
At the pivotal event, those two knocks extended an incredible record. Weatherley has now amassed 330 runs at an average of 82.50 over six Finals Day innings in his career, making him the highest individual scorer in the event’s history. He finished the 2026 Blast with 591 runs at an average of just under 50, making him the top run scorer among all men’s competitors.
Since making his Hampshire debut in April 2016, Weatherley has played in 110 Twenty20 matches for the county. He scored his first professional century in the Royal London Cup, hitting an undefeated 105 against Kent during the team’s championship season, after making his first-class debut with a half-century. During his tenure at Hampshire, he won two trophies: the Vitality Blast in 2022 and the Royal London Cup in 2018. Weatherley has scored 6,163 runs thus far in his career, including 31 fifties and five hundreds.
